The May article "Which Came First, the Drink or the Disease?" certainly reinforced what I have come to believe. In sobriety, a clear head and new awareness allow me to search in retrospect through the memories and mental pictures that come to mind--things I didn't even remember before, from childhood to age sixty-six, the present. All those years, I had a disturbing feeling that some serious mental or physical disease was leading me to an early death. I researched all of my symptoms in encyclopedias and medical books.
