Once Over Lightly

Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

AN ANECDOTE from M. M. of Illinois concerns two friends, both alcoholics, who got drunk together one night and had blackouts. Each awoke the next morning to find he had black eyes, torn clothes, and assorted bruises. One phoned the other to see what had happened but found his friend equally mystified. So they went to the bar where they'd been drinking, to learn the score. As they entered, the bartender said, "Well, I'm sure glad to see you two made up after your fight last night."
