Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

HIS METHOD WORKED, but a different one didn't for a chap in an anecdote from M. M. of Illinois. The fellow in question, an alcoholic comedian broke and out of work, was hired by a politician to hand out campaign pamphlets before an upcoming election. Seeing a crowd of people gathered around some parked cars, the lush moved among them, handing out the leaflets and making his best funny remarks and wisecracks. No one even smiled, so he finally said to one of them, "This isn't much of a political rally. Seems more like a funeral."
