My sincere congratulations and approval to Kenneth Williams, MD, for his article in the September Grapevine, "A Doctor Speaks Out." One would wish every doctor who writes a prescription could have the article as required reading. Doctors generally have in the past been trained to evaluate symptoms history without much concern that the patient may be unconsciously or willfully underplaying a dependence on alcohol or medications. The commercial effort through the media is to relieve the least discomfort, boredom, anxiety, indigestion, or insomnia with a chemical.
