I ALWAYS IGNORED those announcements in AA meetings or the requests in the newsletter Box 4-5-9 for AAs to write to AA members in prisons. After all, I had gone to prison meetings on and off for eighteen years and thus was already carrying the message "inside the walls." Letter writing was better left to stay-at-home AAs and GSO staff members who are paid to write letters. I had neither the time nor the desire to write some inmate I'd never met or seen.
