Language Is No Barrier

IN MY ALMOST two years as a recovering alcoholic through AA, I was never so impressed with the universal aspect of the program as when I went on vacation in Mexico. It was 9:00 AM, March 10, 1982. I had finally arrived at my destination, to begin a glorious three-week vacation in sunny Mexico. Here I was in the country I had frequently visited as a boy and teenager (drinking on most of those occasions). Mexico, being so far away, with no minimum drinking age and its cheap cervezas (beers), tequila, and rum, greatly accelerated my rocky trip down the road to alcoholism.
