Those who came before
Last night, my home AA group celebrated its thirteenth birthday. There were five or six people, out of perhaps thirty-five, who remembered the meeting as it was in its infancy, years before. We took turns speaking about the years before; most important, the people who had gone before. Some were drunk. Some were dead. Some had gone away. But still they were there last night, in spirit.
