Was Faust a Souse?

ALL OF US have heard other recovering alcoholics talk of our disease as a separate and malevolent entity. We say, for instance, "My disease was acting up," or we might say, "My disease made me do it." Everybody's heard "If I listened to my disease, I'd be drunk by now." And so on: "My disease whispers in my ear and says bad is good, night is day, sober is dull--live a little!"
