Safe port in an inner storm
I'm a merchant seaman. During my drinking days, any fear, loneliness, or boredom was soon dealt with by a couple of shots. After five years of sobriety, I was back working on oil tankers. This time, however, I was armed with only AA books, tapes, and the Twelve Steps to deal with any pain or anxiety that arose.
