Navy to the rescue

The first time I read a Grapevine was in June of 1973 when I attended my first AA meeting here. It was held "aboard" the Rota U.S. Naval Station. The closest English-speaking meeting was five hours away, so it was either get sober with the help of the Rota Drydockers, or go without help. I was a schoolteacher and couldn't relate to the sailors, so it took me almost two more years before I gave up the lonely struggle and asked for their help. On March 27, 1975, I surrendered and became a part of the group. I have been a member ever since and have been fortunate to witness the growth in size, sobriety, and service that our group has made over these years.
