Once Over Lightly
Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery
A CONTRIBUTION FROM C. H. of Iowa tells of an alcoholic who couldn't get to sleep one night because of the continuous barking of a neighbor's dog. He tossed and turned for an hour or so, getting angrier by the minute. Finally, he thought of a solution to the problem: He'd pretend that every time the animal barked, it would make him ten dollars richer. He started to count: $10, $20, $30, and so on until he was up to $100.
