A New Freedom and a New Happiness

THE FIRST promise that comes after Step Nine in the Big Book is that "we are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness." To me, freedom used to mean that I was fortunate enough to be born in a free country, which allowed freedom of religion and freedom of the press. I knew people in other countries were not free to come and go as I was, and I felt sorry for them. But other than that, I didn't give it much thought.
