Once Over Lightly
Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery
A STORY FROM C. J. of Connecticut tells of a drunk who awoke in an alley in the wealthy part of town, and went to a nearby home and asked for a handout. The lady of the house said that she didn't give something for nothing, but if he would go around to the back of the house and paint the porch, she'd pay him five dollars. She handed him a bucket of green paint and a brush, and off he went.
