IT WAS A NO-WIN situation, like that of a newcomer to AA who had just returned from a two-week vacation with his wife and young kids. A friend asked him how things had gone. "Put it this way," he replied. "Did you ever spend two weeks in a station wagon with those you thought you loved best?"
