An old-timer looks at young AAs

How often we hear a speaker say, "If I can make this program, anybody can." People think that nobody else could be as sick or have a life as fouled-up or have as difficult a time getting adjusted. The truth is, this program is not a bit harder for one than another. Your past life does not have a damn thing to do with staying sober today. Whether you drank in bars or at home, whether you are a five-time loser out of a federal prison or have never been arrested makes no difference. You may have been a banker or a bum, a prostitute or a missionary; the secret of making it in AA is still working the Twelve Steps.
