Ham on Wry

J. L. OF WEST SACRAMENTO, CALIF. submitted this true anecdote a few of us should have no trouble identifying with: She and her AA boyfriend both have senior citizen mothers who still can't understand why their grown children need to keep going to "those" meetings. The last time the subject came up, her friend's mother kept at him, saying she couldn't believe he was really an alcoholic--she'd never even seen him drunk. Finally, the AA son replied, "Mom, you know I was a telephone repairman for thirty-four years, and you never saw me up a pole either!" (Sound familiar?)
