High Sobriety

I was nervous about going on a wilderness backpacking trip with nine strangers into the High Sierras. We were to head out on the trail exactly on my one-year birthday of sobriety. No phone calls to my sponsor, no meetings, no birthday cakes for me at one year. As a precautionary measure, my sponsor had given me seventeen copies of the Grapevine--one for each day of the trip--since they were lighter than the Big Book or the "Twelve and Twelve."
