Semantics and interpretations?

I first came to Alcoholics Anonymous in July 1981 to stop drinking and to ease the terrible pain inside me. I had stopped using drugs three months previous to that and did not believe myself to be an addict. Five months of wonderful pink cloud sobriety later, I found myself smoking pot again and did so for three months, still going to AA meetings and not drinking alcohol. Through the love and prayers of some very special members I was relieved of that insanity and got back into the program. I gave up the eight months, changed my sobriety date to March 1982, and have been sober and clean to date, one day at a time. I had found that I am indeed an addict and when I use any kind of mood-altering chemical I do not have anything at all that can be called sobriety.
