Reading Rainbow

When I came to AA in June 1968, my original home group was the Tuesday night Van Ness Group in San Francisco (long since folded). "Bill" had been secretary for three months when I arrived, and the steering committee convinced him to stay on after his six-month term ended, until I was deemed "ready." When they informed me that it was my turn to be secretary, I was both proud and terrified. Under Bill's leadership, the meetings had always gone smoothly, and I felt it was essential that I do at least as well. I tried very hard to arrange for good discussion leaders each week, and to have the traditional passages read by erudite people whose elocution and command of English were impeccable.
