Ham on Wry

TIMES CHANGE and gratefully we can laugh about ourselves and our past exploits, as this woman can in an anecdote submitted by C. C. of North Hollywood, California. It seems the woman's husband, a nonalcoholic, was desperately trying to cope with her alcoholic drinking. One afternoon he even traced her to her favorite bar and after some teary-eyed conversation talked her into leaving the place. He got her into a taxi and directed the cabbie to deliver them to the entrance of a hospital which specialized in mental cases. When they pulled up in front of the institution, however, the wife refused to get out of the cab and a physical struggle ensued. Seeing the brewing fracas at their gates, the men in the white coats raced out to take charge. So swayed were they by the husband's vigorous antics that they rushed him--in restraints--into the hospital, where the doors closed behind him. The wife calmly returned to the bar in the same cab she had come in, ordered up a drink, and said, "Hey friends, have I got a story for you. . ."
