I've begun writing this letter on a yellow legal pad while sitting in a hotel dining room in the middle of Iowa. After almost a year on the program, I still feel a bit strange waking up without a hangover when out of town, able to remember everything that happened the night before--including my failure to start this letter as I'd planned.
