PO Box 1980

East meets west

I drive a cab for a suburban cab company just outside of Chicago. One Sunday morning when I was starting work, I was bringing the dispatcher a cup of coffee and he asked me if I would go to a motel about five miles away and pick up this person to go to downtown Chicago. When I arrived at the motel this Japanese person got in the cab and asked to go to 205 W. Wacker. I thought that address sounded familiar but I could not remember what was located there. As we proceeded to downtown he asked me if I knew AA. I told him I was in AA and he smiled and said he was going to the central office downtown. Now it hit me what that address was. I told him I didn't think the office was open on Sunday, but he told me he had called earlier. We continued toward downtown and tried to communicate with each other. We arrived and the guard in the building said the AA office was closed on Sunday. I told the guard that my new friend had called earlier, and the guard explained that my friend had gotten a recording.
