PO Box 1980
I read with a deep sense of initial dread, and then with humor, the responses in the "Your Move" section of the September 1986 Grapevine. I was reminded of the conflicting opinions which were expressed at our local New Year's Eve alcathon two years ago. Right around midnight, several fellow members were onstage and getting ready for the countdown. It was a happy, sober night. Everyone was in good spirits, and we could all agree on one thing--that it was New Year's Eve and we were all sober in the hall that night. Of course, being good alcoholics (or dual- or tri- or multi-addicted people), we could not agree on what time it actually was--or when it would really be midnight. The debate went on for a few minutes, probably into the new year. In any case, someone finally started screaming "Happy New Year!" and the room was filled with hugs and love. The time, ultimately, was not important. What was important was that we were all there for a common purpose, to be together and to share a holiday clean and sober.
