A Slip of the Tongue
I had been in AA about two whole months, and was still pretty shaky, I was kind of confused about alcoholism being a disease. As a clergyman, I was embarrassed that I had been chosen by my Higher Power to get that disease. Why couldn't it have been something more socially acceptable? Like diabetes, or falling arches. . . .It seemed to me that no matter what the folks in the meeting had to say, alcoholism was a moral issue. After all, hadn't I been trained to go after the lost sheep? Shouldn't I know better than a bunch of ex-drunks?
