Spiritual Rainbow

At the meeting in Santa Monica the speaker told us he had been in prison, and described the miraculous contrast between his old life and his new. As he talked I remembered my very first AA meeting a year and three months ago. It was in Milwaukee. I recall walking into that room so scared I could hardly see or hear. I didn't like anything in the room, not the cigarette smoke or the styrofoam cups or the big placard of something called "The Twelve Steps" on the wall. I especially didn't like the fact that out of thirty-two people only three were women.
