Why Be Anonymous?

"Everyone on the job knew you were a drunk, so isn't it better they know you're sober now?" This is the response I have received several times when I have raised the matter of personal anonymity when chairing discussion meetings, or talking privately with members who have considerably more years of sobriety than I.
