So, You Want a Relationship?

I had been in the program about two months and was starting to feel a little better physically, but that awful void and the loneliness I felt when I was drinking was still rearing its ugly head. Somewhere in the recesses of my mind, the thought occurred that a relationship with a lady in the program could possibly fill that void and lessen my incredible loneliness. What could be more perfect? Two people enjoying each other's company and sharing their newfound sobriety. Goodbye loneliness, hello togetherness. My brilliance sometimes amazes me! Why hadn't I thought of this before? No more liquor-laced lines in singles bars for me. No more hungover mornings. This would be a sober relationship supported and blessed by my AA program. Besides, it was time I started feeling happy, joyous, and free, like the others I had heard speak.
