How I Earned My Seat at Our Tables

My name is Peter N., and I am a grateful, recovering alcoholic. I was born on the Penobscot Indian Reservation in central Maine, just as my ancestors were. But this is me, not them. . . I was born August 7, 1939, but due to the white Indian agent's error in registering me, I must take August 23, 1939 as my legal date of birth in the white man's world. (My first resentment.)
