Sponsorship for me has been a very important part of finding sobriety. When I realized I couldn't drink anymore, I called intergroup who put me in touch with a lady of long-standing sobriety in my area. She brought me to my first meeting--signed me up with that group, introduced me around, and became my sponsor. She called me every day for about a month to help me understand what I was feeling in my newfound sobriety. She then said that I should start calling her, which I did. A couple of months later I started going to a different meeting area and changed groups. At this time, I started going to Step meetings because I had heard at meetings that the person I was will drink again and that the Steps were the way to change.
