THIS SOUNDS LIKE HERESY, but two Indiana University pharmacologists fed alcohol to some laboratory rats until the rodents were stoned, then treated them to some coffee. As reported in the The Insider's Newsletter, the alcohol-caffeine combination apparently intensified and prolonged the alcoholic behavior, with effects continuing even after the alcohol had disappeared from the blood. They haven't tried this experiment on humans yet, so the only assumption we can make at present is that a drunken rat shouldn't drink coffee.
