Before I ever came into the AA program, I had read a story in a magazine (I think it was in Reader's Digest) about St. Francis who was busily weeding his garden. Someone asked him how he would spend his time if he knew the world was going to end shortly. According to the story, he answered, "Why, I would go on weeding my garden." This little anecdote has always stayed in the forefront of my mind.
