I was handed a copy of the Grapevine after my second meeting and was glad to find Bob's article, "Are We Scaring Newcomers Away?"
The first meeting I attended, I was filled with the apprehension and desperation I am sure most people feel. After an hour, I was reassured that maybe this was a good place to be. By the end of the meeting I almost felt good. And then we stood and joined hands and the Lord's Prayer was said. Holding tightly to others' hands, I had never felt so rejected and isolated before in my life.
I am not a Christian. What I am is irrelevant. What is relevant is the fact that I cannot be part of that group. Why did I go to a second meeting? Where else can I go?
