Reaching out

I understand that many people who don't belong to any minority group (other than the grouping: alcoholics) feel threatened and excluded by the existence of "special interest groups." It would be nice if they could understand that many people who attend special interest groups feel alienated and excluded in mainstream groups. Many people who are members of groups that are discriminated against by the larger society (Native Americans, gay people, black people, etc.) feel so alienated by the surrounding culture that they would not come into AA at all, were it not for special interest groups.
