"I came into AA sort of backward," says Michael Alexander, nonalcoholic trustee who in April 1988 was elected chairperson of AA's General Service Board. "I learned the AA structure before I knew many AA members." As a young lawyer in the 1950s, Mike went to work for Bernard B. Smith during the time Bern and Bill W. were involved in setting up the AA General Service Conference, and was assigned some of the "routine" work for AA.
