That First Drink

I was terrified when I walked into the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous. I had drinking for thirty years and the basis of my terror was the prospect of living--even one day--without alcohol. I admitted that I could no longer live a life with alcohol, but I could not yet imagine a life without alcohol.
