I Know Why I'm Here

I am a twenty-four-year-old recovering alcoholic. Five and a half years ago while in an alcoholic blackout I caused an automobile crash that killed two of my friends and left another with brain damage. About a week and a half later I was convinced by an AA member that I had a problem with alcohol and that I should check into a treatment facility. After completing the program and learning of the AA way I discovered a new hope and a new beginning. However, there was something that I knew I had to face--a murder indictment for the deaths of my two friends. Still, after knowing what price I was going to have to pay, I had AA to lean on and that I did. I never knew what happiness and serenity were before I found AA. And I never would have thought my family would be so proud of me.
