'Real' alcoholics

It brought back a lot of memories reading "Wherever the Elevator Stops," in the March Grapevine. I, like the author, remember hearing people say they were "real" alcoholics. It made me wonder if I was a "not-so-real" alcoholic. Like most questions at the time, I was afraid to ask what it meant. It was bad enough I was at an AA meeting, I didn't have to be stupid, too!
