The miracle of AA identification is tenderly rendered in "You Don't Have to Be Alone" (December 1988). At my first meeting, I knew right away how others felt because I felt the same. As time went by I began learning about the nature of our disease and I began judging others less. Soon I began judging myself less and I realized that I wasn't hopelessly bad, I was ill. Identification let me become willing to accept suggestions from other recovering alcoholics, suggestions I could not have accepted from those I felt were judging me, those who didn't know how I felt.
