In response to Ms. Beirne's article, there are two issues. One is the need of some individuals for certain medication, which she has addressed. The second issue is far more common. It is the problem of physicians prescribing tranquilizers to patients who are known to be alcoholics. I have known some alcoholics who were sent to their deaths because their "medication" led them straight back to the bottle.
