PO Box 1980
Like Tony S. in "Let's Dust Off the Twelfth Step" (April 1990 issue), I, too, became sober in Manhattan in the good old days. Then (1961) no hospitals admitted alcoholics, and treatment centers were unknown. Many alcoholics never made it and died because they could neither get medical attention nor a place to get the alcohol out of their bodies and minds. But with the backing of Bill W. we continued to try and persuade doctors that alcoholism was a treatable disease and urge hospitals to set some beds aside for treatment.
