Second Tradition: Out of the Hat
For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority--a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.
During the first year I was sober in AA, about a half dozen regular members abandoned my home group over a dispute about the group conscience. The process was frightening; the outcome reassuring.
