On the shelf

I read with much gratitude the letter from B. B. in September's issue regarding sharing of spiritual, or rather, religious beliefs in meetings. When I hit my bottom with alcohol, I considered myself a back-slidden born-again Christian, and was terrified to admit how alcohol had taken over my life for fear of being told that I was a sinner who just needed to pray more. I went to AA meetings because I found no other way to stop drinking, but I listened resentfully to any talk of God.
