Our mutual purpose

The January article titled "What's in a Name" saddened me deeply. No, I don't introduce myself as "alcoholic and addict" in order to set distance between me and you, or proclaim any kind of uniqueness. As an alcoholic, I know that self-isolating uniqueness can get me seriously dead in very short order, so I work hard at identifying rather than comparing. And I'm not ignorant of the requirement that I focus on my alcoholism at meetings, or of the need for unity.
