In November of 1990, the first AA meeting was started in a closed treatment facility (CTF) here in Leningrad. Because this is a special facility for convicted felons, it took three months for me just to be allowed to start the meeting. The prevailing opinion in this facility is that hard work can cure alcoholism, and though it is a real prison where the inmates have to perform the most difficult jobs, it is being called a facility for the treatment of alcoholism.
