Searching for a Positive Identity

Once again I have been noticing discussions of specialty groups at all levels of AA, from my home group to the state assembly. The discussion always seems to be the same. There is a sense that these groups are somehow tolerable but, as many say, "should be springboards into the regular AA community." I wonder why there is such insistence that members be mainstreamed into the regular AA community (whatever that is). These attitudes seem to reflect the attitudes of society at large, with no unique AA need being cited.
