Children at Meetings

There has been much controversy over our children disturbing meetings. In our Thursday "Speaker Step" meeting, it's difficult to hear the speaker. At our regular business meeting we discussed this problem. The meeting was very loud. I guess Bill W. would have called it growth. It ranged from banning noisy children to the setting up of a "Meeting Care Program" staffed with baby sitters. I'm very pleased and proud of the group's decision. We handled it the same way you handle a noisy drunk. One or two strong people take the drunk outside and talk to him. Our motion reads: "If any one of the members of our group discerns a situation where a child is distracting others during a meeting, then one of us, in a loving way, should offer assistance to the parent of the child so they may remain at the meeting." In changing times we're learning to expand our definition of Twelfth Step work.
