A Life Saved

First I was aware of being held firmly by the shoulder, then of being shaken. As I slowly opened my eyes, I saw a paramedic's face a few inches from mine. Behind him was an ambulance with lights flashing and a fire truck with several firemen waiting nearby. I was loaded into the ambulance and sat numbly on the jump seat. I shrugged the oxygen mask away and shook my head to indicate that I didn't need it, for I was still in control. I was taken to the emergency room of the city hospital, an attempted suicide.
