Whatever happened to physical sobriety? You know that principle where you don't pick up a drink no matter what the reason? Whatever happened to those corny cliches that helped so many of us find sobriety? Like "One day at a time," "Don't take the first drink and you won't get drunk"? Where are those drinking stories that helped us form a common bond? Those sometimes funny, often hurting, stories that remind us of where we were? Are we all so relieved of our disease and restored to sanity that we don't have to, or need to, share our experience, strength, and hope? Have we raised the bottom so high that many alcoholics now have a "social disease" and not that mental obsession coupled with a physical allergy that the Big Book speaks of?
