Raising the Bottom

On first coming to AA, I was not a happy camper, primarily because I didn't think drinking was my problem. I only came after my husband gave me that dire ultimatum: Either stop drinking or get out. Angry, confused, and knowing little about alcoholism at the time, much of what I heard seemed like a foreign language. When I first heard the term "high-bottom drunk," all that came to mind was that some of you people must have very long legs. I sure didn't think this applied to me, as I didn't feel high-level anything. In fact, those first few months, I could easily have walked into meetings--under the door.
