Willingness Starts in the Heart

Someone from our local Alano club asked me to go on a Twelfth Step call to deliver the message to a woman alcoholic. There were three men from the club at her house when I arrived. These men had not been able to find any women who would go, so what else could they do but take on the responsibility themselves and go? There were many women at the club but none had been willing to go. Many said that they wanted a meeting. But twelfth-stepping someone is a meeting. What better meeting can we have than seeing a person still suffering because of the effects of alcohol? It can only make our problems seem so miniscule and make ourselves grateful for what we do have (however little it may be, it cannot compare to the pain of "the old days").
